๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ All eyes are on Kursk right now, but the situation in Pokrovsk direction in Donetsk Oblast is worsening: as Russian troops advance & relentlessly bomb settlements, thousands of Ukrainians have to flee their homes. My report for @KyivIndependent ๐Ÿ‘‡

This is Alex, callsign Mike, combat medic with @hospitallers_ . She was killed today by a ru FPV drone which targeted her evacuation vehicle as she was performing a last mission in the Kharkiv region before coming home tomorrow. Alexandra Mulkevych 27.03.1989 - 14.08.2024 ๐Ÿ’”

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ I am just back from the mass graves site in Izium. It is worse than anything you can imagine. I can confirm that at least part of the people recently buried there were tortured and had violent deaths.

๐Ÿงต Do you want to hear about feelings of Russian soldiers? I will tell you about those I recently met, who are prisoners of war in a Ukrainian detention center & whom Ukraine hopes to exchange as quickly as possible for its own POWs detained in appalling conditions in Russia. 1/

In light of denials of Russians that they commit war crimes in Ukraine, I share again what was probably the worst day of my life, two years ago, when I witnessed several exhumations among the 447 tortured bodies of civilians & soldiers executed by Russian in Izium. #RussiansatWar

What is happening in Kharkiv is entirely avoidable. What is happening in Pokrovsk is entirely avoidable. What has been happening to Ukraine since 2014 was entirely avoidable. If only the West had leadership and not just half-fulfilled promises & concern. This is criminal too.

Those firefighters were enlisted to recover the bodies. One told me his entire unit will need psychological support after this. When I wanted to talk to an officer from the Prosecution Office, we both had tears swelling and stared at each other in silence & utter shock.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ TW extreme violence & death. The remains blurred on the picture are those of an ~18 year old man. His hands were attached in his back. He received a violent blow with a sharp object on the head. His testicles were crushed and his inner tighs bore traces of torture.

I will never get to see my friend Andriy again. He will never sing again, play the guitar again, write again, draw again, read again,oh & save lives again because he did it too daily. He was formidable, fierce, scary, kind, on top of being the bravest. Ru took him from us all ๐Ÿ’”

A 14 year old boy froze to death at the Poland-Belarus border. Last week, I met a Syrian boy of the same age, who managed to reach Poland despite illegal pushbacks. He told me he saw corpses, lying face down in swamps. Children, among other people, are at risk of dying there.

I forgot an important point, some POWs asked why Ukraine didn't exchange those injured among them & didn't exchange POWs more often. They seem to have no idea that Russia is stalling negotiations for all exchanges, incl all for all, & that it doesn't care for its sick. 10/

Overall, I felt they were sorry to have been caught. Embarrassed to be there and even more embarrassed to be well treated. Most say they had been surprised to be treated humanly and to have rights. I didn't see from them empathy to Ukrainians, be they civilians or soldiers. 9/
