Exclusive: Albania’s chief rabbi Yoel Kaplan is wanted for war crimes in Gaza, @MiddleEastEye can reveal. Last year, Kaplan told me on the record of the pride he felt fighting alongside his son in Gaza, now British lawyers are after him. Link 👇

“We have never been allowed to speak about politics in sports” says an Egyptian sports player “all of a sudden now it’s allowed. If we can talk about Ukraine, we can also talk about Palestine which has been occupied for 74 years”

Greece has been blackmailing Albania & its people for 10 years by threatening to block its EU aspirations unless it gives Athens part of its maritime continental shelf. Greece has blackmailed North Macedonia for 30 years. In the Balkans, Greece & Serbia are the only revisionists
I would like to send a clear message to countries that seek to redraw maps. And my message is that revisionist policies will fail (statement following my meeting with Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan).

The lawyer speaking on behalf of Israel right now at the ICJ, Malcolm Shaw, also spoke on behalf of Serbia arguing that Kosovo didn't have a right to exist at the World Court.

Friday prayers at the newly opened Grand Mosque of Tirana built by Turkey. Seems like Tirana might need another.

The Ottoman state sometimes feels like distant history Today I spoke with a Yemeni man whose grandfather & my Albanian grandfather were both citizens of the same Ottoman state And then you realise how Yemeni & Albanian history are interwoven with the present in interesting ways

It's interesting that there doesn’t appear to be a single flag from the new Syria among the demonstrators. It will also be intriguing to see whether Syrian secularists adopt the same playbook that was used to topple Morsi in Egypt
Syrian students, artists, activists, civil societies members demonstrating in Damascus asking to be part of the “experts council” that will write the new constitution. “We want a free and democratic Syria where rights of women, minorities and everyone will be granted” @repubblica

The Palestinian embassy in Tirana, Albania Albania has a small but growing Palestinian community, and the country is fortunate to have them. Yesterday, I met a family who had escaped the war in Syria. They initially went to Egypt, but after the 2013 coup, they moved to Albania.

Turkiye is one of the top 3 beneficiaries of manufacturing moving away from China and nearer to Europe - given the country’s geography + established manufacturing base it makes sense

A French far-right politician continues to roam around Kosovo, defending genocide & ethnic cleansing & claiming that one of the country’s most beautiful, iconic cities is “occupied” by Albanian Muslims. Not content in spreading hate in France he comes to Kosovo to spread his bile

The Grand Mosque of Tirana was first envisioned in the 1920s but consecutive Albanian governments prevented its construction for nearly 100 years, while allowing the Catholic and Orthodox communities to build large places of worship. Today it was opened!

Albanians get angry when an Albanian goes to fight in Syria, yet no one says a word about the Chief Rabbi of Albania going to fight in Gaza and Lebanon, killing who knows how many. Hypocritical and reactionary nonsense.
A ka idiota më të mdhenjë se ky që paska shku të luftojë për kauza të popujve që nuk na lidhë asgjë me ta ?

This is on brand for both Kadare & the Albanian state, which made it their life's work to project an image to the West that Albanians have a Christian character, while trying to erase as much of Islam as possible. It's fitting then that the state usurps his image for its own ends
Imagine being a declared atheist throughout your life, like Ismail Kadare, and then having the "secular" Albanian state conduct a funeral ceremony filled with overt Christian religious symbolism. It seems our state "converts" people after their death.
