Today, Italy did something wonderful. They published a beautiful stamp in honour of our late Queen. The first time, with the exception of former Popes, that Italy has done so for a non-Italian. Thank you, Italy, from your British friends, for this very touching gesture 🇬🇧🇮🇹🇬🇧🇮🇹

Today, 101 year old WW2 veteran Harry Shindler OBE, who landed at Anzio in 1944, became the last person to sign our condolence book before The Queen’s funeral. Harry lives 3 hours from Rome, so, thanks to our Defence Attache Col Matt Smith, the book travelled to him.

I love this statue of Churchill striding purposefully through Paris. When I pass it, as I often do, I pay a silent tribute to the great man - proud to represent the country he saved, in a country he loved; and reminded of his resolve in adversity #letusgoforwardtogether

Just arrived at Bayeux. Wonderful to see the 🇬🇧 flying from the Cathedral’s spire on a windy morning here, as it always does on 6 June. Bayeux was the first major French town to be liberated after D-Day (on the morning of 7 June 1944) #DDay76

80 years ago today, Rome was liberated, as Allied Forces entered the city. Today we at the 🇬🇧 Embassy paid tribute, standing on the exact spot where 80 yrs ago, young Italians welcomed British soldiers as they marched past our Embassy a few days later

‘Sleep on, dear Ron, in a grave we may never see. May some kind hand, place flowers for Dad and me.’ So reads the inscription on Private Ron Strickland’s grave from his Mum and Dad. I don’t know if they saw his grave at Forli; I hope so. This week I laid a poppy in his memory

Lt Col Arnaud Beltrame, wounded after taking the place of a hostage in the attack yesterday at #Trèbes, gave his life to save the lives of others. Truly a hero. Our thoughts this morning with his family and his comrades. And our solidarity with France
