It's no secret that crypto frontends have been particularly difficult to decentralize The typical industry-accepted pattern is an open-source frontend pinned on IPFS with a DNS record pointing to a centralized gateway.

This approach raises some important questions: - who decides what version is correct / updates the DNS record? - what happens if a gateway censors? - how is that version changed? - how does the end user know they are not being phished? - who pins the site and keeps caches warm?

Armada is a community-led project: some wonderful other partners have convened around this idea to use it and/or help bring it to the world

Of course, we wouldn't be pointing out a bunch of problems without a solution... Through a unique architectural approach, @Armada_Infra shifts frontend hosting onto a network of untrusted community-run nodes and control of that hosting to any on-chain address (eg. a DAO)

The usability of this approach also leaves much to be desired - IPFS was not designed to be a CDN, and it shows here, with uncached loads taking upwards of 44 seconds on average for Cloudflare's public gateway (which most use in this pattern): blog.cloudflare.com/ipfs-measureme…

Others have tried end-user clients that users install, or relying on having many community-run forks of the same open-source code. These approaches work from the decentralization perspective but create an unreasonable level of friction for the end-user.

Something that makes me sad is somehow all this push on legal didn’t get most teams to truly prioritize decentralization or mitigation of the central server. Even know I feel like decentralized front ends are still given way too little attention

The crypto industry has long struggled with frontend decentralization, often relying on centralized gateways or compromising on user experience. EarthFast, which originally began as a community project in 2022 called Armada Network, provides a seamless, high-performance
