Virginia is only 1 state Senate seat away from becoming the next state to ban abortion. We must take back our House majority and expand our majority in the Senate to protect the rights of women across the Commonwealth.
Today, the House of Delegates WILL pass the Equal Rights Amendment. In this nation and this Commonwealth, women WILL have equal protection under the law. It has taken far too long, but finally women will be represented in the Constitution. History.
Actual quote from a GOP candidate:
“Too many people have easy access to voting”
Far right candidates are focused on rolling back fundamental rights we expanded under Democratic leadership. We must stand up to protect our progress this November.
We got a very clear picture of who @GovernorVA truly is last night. These are the petty actions of a governor prioritizing political fights over passing bipartisan policies to improve the lives of Virginians.
It is my great honor to serve as the 56th Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates. Now it is time to get to work building a safer, more prosperous and more inclusive Commonwealth. virginiageneralassembly.gov/house/chamber/…
Virginia is now a sanctuary state for women in Kentucky and throughout the south who need safe, legal access to abortion — but @GovernorVA wants to go “on offense” here.
We will not go back.
Abortion bans are not just dangerous, they are an infringement upon the religious liberty of thousands of Virginians.
I explained on the House floor this morning that Judaism values life and affirms that protecting existing life is paramount. 🧵
I thank the people of Virginia and my colleagues in the House of Delegates for allowing me to serve as the first woman and first person of Jewish faith to serve as Speaker in the 403-year history of our Commonwealth - truly the honor of my life.
Tonight I delivered a response to Governor Youngkin’s first State of the Commonwealth Address. @GovernorVA is out of step with the values of Virginians and his actions in his first days speak far louder than the words we heard tonight.
Instead of @GovernorVA unveiling his “tipline” in a press release or in a school, he announced it on right-wing talk radio.
Virginians will remember the first 2 weeks of his term and his party’s overreach well into the future.
