Today I resign as a member of the Labour Party and therefore the Labour Whip on Plymouth City Council and the Chair of Taxi Licensing Committee.

The Labour Party nationally has thrown transgender people under the bus and has taken us backwards decades. Everyone deserves the right to live peacefully, and the Labour Party continues to deny transgender people that basic right.

I cannot continue to represent a party that does not support my fundamental rights. I cannot as a trans person continue to support the Labour Party.

There are a few people who I really respect in the Labour Group. They know who they are and I wish them all the best.

I will now be sitting my final year on Plymouth City Council as an independent councillor, not affiliated with any other independent.

To be clear and upfront, I will not be seeking reelection next year.

My thanks as always goes to the people of Compton, Mannamead, Mutley and Hartley Vale for their continued support.

Feel pretty sick. Just found out a councillor from my old CLP was actively trying to find out my dead name because he seems to think it is my real name and that he has a right to know. Transphobia has no place in our party. It's really quite scary.

Thank you to all the people in Compton ward who put their trust in me to be your new Councillor. I feel so honoured and privileged. The hard work starts now. 🌹 To the trans community - you belong, your voice is your power. Things will get better. 💖🏳️‍⚧️

4 years ago today, I said the words "I think I might be trans and I'm terrified" Today, I'm so proud to be trans and honoured to be the first openly trans councillor in the South West, being the person I needed when I was younger. It gets better. Chosen family always wins 🏳️‍⚧️💖

After months of consideration, I have tonight taken the difficult decision to resign from the LGBT+ Labour National Committee. Please see my resignation letter below: (Alt text provided)
To the National Secretary of LGBT+ Labour,

Since October, I've been considering whether I should resign from LGBT+ Labour's National Committee. Today, I have taken the decision to do so.

What first led me to question my position was the continued undermining of me as the South West Regional co-chair from a certain person elected to a national position. My viewpoints and autonomy have not been respected in the way other regional chairs are. I've been in the role since March 2021 and I still haven't had the South West regional social media handed over to me. Since challenging said committee about this months ago, I have not heard from them.
To be able to deliver true trans and non-binary equality as the party of Government, we need to get our own house in order first. I no longer have the confidence in LGBT+ Labour as an organisation to do that. Whilst trans and non-binary voices are constantly having to raise the alarm when something goes wrong, cis members of the committee are offering no meaningful political leadership and are just sitting on their hands. Most recently, some Labour delegates to the Council of Europe have tabled amendments that are damaging to trans and non-binary people and I haven't heard a single word from these cis members. I understand that we are all volunteers and this isn't true of all members of the committee, but the inaction is enough to make me more than uncomfortable.

I remain truly committed to the equality and equity of trans and non-binary people but I can no longer do that in good conscience as a member of LGBT+ Labour's National Committee.

Trans people have known for a long time that our human rights have been under attack by successive Governments. The Labour Government must scrap the bathroom ban today.
The Council of Europe has warned that the UK gov’s treatment of trans people may breach human rights law. This must be a wake up call. We’ve seen an increase in hostility towards trans in recent years. Everyone deserves dignity, safety, & respect - that includes trans people.

I'm going to bed with such a whole heart tonight. Thanks to the all the people who came up and spoke to me at the Plymouth trans protest today. Your kind words mean the absolute world to me. This is just the start of things getting better 💖🏳️‍⚧️

5 years ago, I uttered the words "I think I might be trans and I'm terrified". Doesn't quite feel real that I'm celebrating my 5 year Manniversary today, it's a milestone 17 year old me never thought possible. Things do actually get better 🏳️‍⚧️💖

I am delighted to have been selected as the Labour Candidate for Compton ward for the May 2022 local elections. I’m keen to help with local issues and hear your thoughts about how Compton, Mannamead, Mutley and Plymouth as a whole can be improved for the better.
