From today, I will be taking time out from all of my work commitments to be with my family.
I would like to thank everyone for their support, understanding and respect for my family’s privacy and would wish that to continue.
Continue to stay vigilant and look after each other.

- We move to phase 3 on Mon 29th June. Very low levels of #COVID19. What worries me most now is travel from overseas and I fear many planning foreign trips. 2020 is a year for a staycation. Stay in Ireland, spend locally and follow public health advice. @roinnslainte @HSELive
- All good teams keep going until the very end. They know the risks of easing off when the end is in sight. We’ve done so well this far- but it’s not full time yet! Come on Team Ireland- let’s keep the effort up until the final whistle blows. @roinnslainte #COVID19 @HSELive
- Two weeks of staying at home- let’s keep it going so we can drive this infection back from our community. Staying apart will slow this infection. Minding each other will protect the vulnerable. Pushing it back will save lives. That’s the goal. #COVID19 @roinnslainte @HSELive
- Did a ZOOM meeting this afternoon with all public health doctors across the country. Proud to be one of them. They are doing incredible work to protect their local communities and vulnerable people from #COVID19 @roinnslainte @HSELive
- Today I depart the civil service and my role as CMO. It’s been an honour to serve the Irish people. Thank you to my colleagues, friends & the public, especially for your support when Emer died. And thank you to my family. New adventures lie ahead.
- Last week Ireland adopted tough additional measures designed to limit the spread of #COVID19. It has been a truly nationwide effort to stop the spread of this virus & to protect the vulnerable. We need to keep it going. We need to #FlattenTheCurve even more than we have.
- Drove into Dublin City Centre to collect someone from work at 815 PM. Absolutely shocked at scenes in South Great George’s St, Exchequer St, South William St area. Enormous crowds- like a major open air party. This is what we do not need when we have made so much progress.
- As Ireland starts to lift restrictions, hand washing, respiratory hygiene and physical distancing are even more important. If you have cold or flu like symptoms, even mild ones, isolate at home and call your GP. Do it today. Don’t put it off. RT. @HSELive @roinnslainte #COVID19
- Cases rising quickly. We have low cases and deaths compared to EU/UK/US. This is at risk now- just as vaccines arrive. To protect yourself & those you love: Stay home. Don’t meet up. Stay away from restaurants/pubs. Avoid crowds. Use masks. Follow health advice. @roinnslainte
- If you were exposed to #COVID19 on Christmas Day, you would be at your most infectious to people you encounter tomorrow on New Year’s Eve. This poses a serious risk of significant additional spread. #StayAtHome and stay safe.
- You can make your own Christmas safe, meaningful and memorable for the right reasons. Stay home, stay safe and stay well. Limit contact as much as you can. Mind yourself. Watch out for others. Follow our public health advice. Have a very happy Christmas. @roinnslainte @HSELive
- The next 7 days are vital. Now is the time to #FlattenTheCurve. Every one of us must play our part; 1. Reduce your social contacts – see only a handful of people in your network 2. Distance yourself 2 metres from people in shops & supermarkets #COVID19 #SocialDistancing
