The perfect holiday gift for anyone with a childish bent. You know, forever-futzing network engineers, petulant/annoying board members, technical leadership folks you need to placate because youโ€™ve denied them access to the real IXP hardware! Order now, donโ€™t delay! ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿ•Ž๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ„

Saturday router porn (pic stolen from @danhearty on LinkedIn). Itโ€™s a Juniper Networks T4K - a beast!

DNS is turning 40 years old this month (first published November 1983). DNS is a handful of years older than our beloved BGP. Long live both protocols, even if neither makes for an easy life. rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc882

Equinix kills copper: Effective 31 March 2024, all new Cross Connects globally will be Single-Mode Fiber (SMF). Copper (including UTP, COAX, Cat5, Cat6 media types) and Multi-Mode Fiber (MMF) will no longer be available as media types for new Cross Connects in any IBX data center

Vint Cerf @vgcerf & Bob Kahn submitted a paper describing TCP/IP (a protocol packet network intercommunication) 50 years ago today (Nov 5th 1973). On that day they submitted their paper to be published. Happy Birthday TCP. cs.princeton.edu/courses/archivโ€ฆ

Are you peering with AS209 (Lumen nรฉe CenturyLink nรฉe Qwest) or AS3356 (legacy Level3)? If so, then read what @DanRayburn has to say about their CDN traffic (or more importantly, lack of future CDN traffic).

Hey Cogent & NTT. Kindly reconnect because #depeering isn't a very nice thing to do on Valentines Day!
It would appear that AS174 (Cogent) and AS2914 (NTT) have depeered in Europe. Causing a decent latency spike between single homed customers on both sides in Europe. This is not Cogent's first de-peering, their wikipedia page has a mostly complete list en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cogent_Coโ€ฆ
