This was the debate where the main discussion afterwards in the lobby/on here was whether Sunak was 'mansplaining'.
Liz Truss can't say she wasn't warned that her plan was a fairy tale. Rishi Sunak(former Chancellor) - "We have to be honest. Borrowing your way out of inflation isn't a plan - it's a fairy tale."

If May's deal is voted down on 10th December, a confidence vote could be lost by May on 11th December. The necessary 14 day cooling off period before an election is forced under the FTPA doesn't mention bank hols. So the Queen could be calling an election on.. Christmas Day

According to the MRP, the Conservatives lost 16 seats in the last 4 days - so their hypothetical majority was 100 on Sunday, and is 68 today.
According to a sneak peek of the YouGov MRP - released at 10pm - the Conservatives have gained 9 seats during the campaign, but the momentum is with the Labour Party.

Liz Truss entered parliament through David Cameron's 'A-List', which had the explicit aim of broadening the number of women and ethnic minority Conservative MPs.
What a photo. 💙 Women leading in politics, there on merit, and no shortlists. My children’s generation don’t see what the fuss is about- and that’s fantastic because it means things are really changing. Labour has so far to go.

In the course of Sunday book writing, have come across this piece from the Sunday Times in November 1992. It's been said before, but almost word for word the same criticisms levelled at Starmer today.

Changing the electoral system without voters getting a direct say is a very interesting precedent for the Conservative Party to set. Impossible to see that coming back to bite them.

Ooof. That last 10 seconds doesn't work too badly as a clippable bit for the News at Six, does it?

Explicit from Downing Street on the vote-suppressing aim of the Voter ID scheme.
Exclusive No10 needs to stop trying to “placate” Rishi Sunak and instead give airtime to more popular colleagues like Kemi Badenoch and Penny Mourdant, Cabinet minister Johnny Mercer wrote in a private memo 🧵 Story w/ @Steven_Swinford @Geri_E_L_Scott thetimes.co.uk/article/025309…

The 53 seats where a Tory candidate won despite more votes being cast for pro-referendum candidates. And the 14 seats where a split pro-Brexit vote allowed a Labour MP to retain the seat. The difference between a majority of 80, and a majority of 2. ukandeu.ac.uk/five-charts-th…

The context for Boris Johnson's comments today is a significant decline in his electoral appeal among Leave voters: the Conservative share of the Leave vote has fallen from 74% in December 2019 to 54%, a far sharper fall than among Conservative Remainers. ukandeu.ac.uk/wp-content/upl…

When did the UK government realise that resolving the 'Irish Trilemma' (H/T @JohnSpringford) would define the Brexit process? A historical thread🧵 based on our Brexit Witness Archive ukandeu.ac.uk/brexit-witness… TL;DR - you'll be surprised at how different the recollections are.

This, plugged into the FT's model (which does not explicitly try to guess at how tactical voters will split), gives the Lib Dems over 100 seats and the Conservative Party 31.
Sky News / YouGov exclusive poll ** Tories joint lowest VI share in Parliament ** Reform just ONE point behind ** Lab down 3; LD up 4 LAB 38% (-3), CON 18% (-1), RefUK 17% (+1), LDEM 15% (+4), GRN 8% (+1) Fieldwork Mon/Tue (around Lib Dem manfiesto coverage)

% agree: ‘Working people do not get their fair share of the nation’s wealth’ - Tory MPs 23%, the public 66% ‘There is one law for the rich and one law for the poor’ - Tory MPs 5%, the public 73% ‘Big business takes advantage of ordinary people’ - Tory MPs 18%, the public 74%

When Ed Davey says at the end of this clip he only plans on winning Conservative and SNP-held seats, it’s worth remembering that’s just the electoral reality (and a big change from when the Lib Dems were last electorally competitive in 2010).
