Generous review by @_BTO News of our latest bird report. “Dorset is justifiably regarded as one of England’s finest birding counties, and this is more than reflected in the EXCEPTIONAL Dorset Bird Report 2024” with “stunning photographs”. Free with club membership 😀

Juv Aquatic Warbler trapped and ringed at Longham Lakes this morning by @hoopoe2016te and team. Typically no sign since release. Dorset continues as a premier county for this increasingly rare species

Please think before sharing your pics and locations of rare breeding species on twitter and elsewhere - they are vulnerable to disturbance and persecution. If in doubt, keep it quiet! Email to county recorders instead. Mark as sensitive if posting on @BirdTrack or @Team_eBird

Hey! Tweeters! Leave them birds alone! Please leave our scarce breeding birds plenty of space to get on with it in peace - especially at popular birding spots. Larry the Lesser Whitethroat says "You try settling down to breed with people standing under your tree all day long."

We have had a message from the RSPB team in Dorset asking to post something about issues over the last few days at Lodmoor with birders trampling vegetation to get closer to the Squacco Heron. Can anyone birding there please stick to the paths.

Please can anyone twitching the Buff-breasted Sandpiper at St Aldhelm's Head please stay out of the private fields. Local birders have a hard won relationship with the landowners at this site which is easily ruined by selfish trespassing behaviour @BirdGuides

Eyes open Dorset birders. Waxwing in Torquay. There must be some in Dorset!
We have been hoping for Waxwing before the years out, I couldn’t believe it when our neighbour phoned to say they had one in their garden !. @DevonBirds

Short-Eared Owls - Wyke Down - Important. If visiting this popular spectacle please park very carefully and keep the road completely clear at all times. These farmers are creating this habitat. Please respect them and their need for safe vehicle and equipment movement.

Lookout species #2: Goshawk. They display in Feb and Mar on still days, so look for them circling over forest. Yesterday we posted a photo we mistakenly thought was open access - we're using this stunning one with permission from Mark Wright, taken at RSPB Arne last month.

A Hoopoe brightened up a cloudy 'early rounds' at Durlston this morning. @DorsetBirds @DurlstonCP @DorsetWildlife

Wow! 52 White Storks over Puncknowle yesterday! Great record, and likely to become a more regular event as the reintroduction gathers pace. But how many of us did they fly over unnoticed?!
The incredible sight captured by beachbuddy10 from Instagram, of 52 White Storks flying over Puncknowle, West Dorset yesterday flying west towards Bridport. The biggest ever UK flock? @BirdGuides @DorsetBirdClub @KneppWilding @CharlieBurrell_ @bbcwildlifemag
