I hate to be the guy, but the apostrophe is appropriate in this case. For clarity, the writer may include an apostrophe. The alternative is "Walzs" which looks like it could be a separate Polish last name.
If you think of the things a middle class person with 2 kids would reasonably want: decent house, a modest vacation each year, money for the summer camp/kids karate/hockey/dancing/or whatever, two reliable cars, ok retirement, and so on, $100k a year is not enough.

It was a good book. Well-written and thought provoking. There are some provocative areas that will poke at your values and assumptions -- but they allowed for me to more easily make sense of what we see in the world today.
