    Swedish farmers get a direct income support of Euro 12,590 per farmer, which is double the average for EU farmers (in 2018). Direct payments form 54% of the total farmers income. Highest support (73%) is for Livestock farms. Source: CAP Strategic Plans, European Commission.

    This is a very important ask. I think the Supreme Court should suo motto discuss this. Elected representatives cannot be allowed to betray the trust of voters by switching political alliances.

    A farmer in Punjab got a loan of Rs 1.06 lakh against 7.59 tola of gold jewellery. When he defaulted on loan repayment, bank auctioned his gold worth Rs 3.65 lakh. All that the farmer owed was Rs 1.25 lakh in total. Wonder why such swiftness is not shown in case of corporates.

    Imagine if the three farm laws had not been repealed, the pvt sector would have made a killing by hoarding a sizeable quantity of #wheat. Thank heavens, the laws were withdrawn well in time.

    Ahead of Assam elections, Finance Minister @nsitharaman transfers Rs 3,000 each in bank accounts of nearly 7.5 lakh tea garden workers. It's time to also extend this benefit to workers in tea gardens in South India, and Kangra in Himachal Pradesh.

    After the rains in the past few days, wheat bags in Punjab and Haryana mandis drenched, lie in a pool of water. This is a scene that has not changed for the past 30 years. The pressing question is why can't public investment be made for upgrading mandi infrastructure?

    Half the battle won. Withdrawing the three contentious farm laws is welcome. But as long as #MSP is not made a legal right for farmers, there will be no end to agrarian distress.

    Bihar is the only State in India which is completely, almost completely, dependent on markets in agriculture. It threw away the mandis under the #APMC Act in 2006. And yet, it has the lowest farm income in the country. #FarmersProtest
