- On Friday, I got my COVID vaccine here at the @DeptofDefense. We’re continuing to lean forward in vaccinating our workforce to keep the nation safe. As of today, we’ve administered 1,144,697 doses … and counting.
- Replying to @DepSecDefHicksIn my first weeks, I've been assessing the alignment of @DeptofDefense budgets to @POTUS and @SecDef priorities. Top issue: advancing the capabilities needed to deter, and if needed, to compete and win in the face of Chinese military modernization.
- My heart goes out to the families of our fallen service members and to all those harmed in the attacks in Kabul today. The Secretary and I are more determined than ever to see the mission through, to get as many people to safety as we can, and to honor those who have sacrificed.On behalf of the men and women of the @deptofdefense, I express my deepest condolences to the loved ones and teammates of all those killed and wounded in Kabul today. - On this #TransDayOfVisibility we at @DeptofDefense proudly recognize transgender and gender non-conforming personnel and continue our efforts to lead by example in the cause of advancing the human rights of LGBTQI+ people around the world.Trans rights are human rights, and on this #TransDayOfVisibility , I’m pleased to announce we’ve updated DoD policy on the open service of transgender individuals. The update reinforces our prior decision to allow recruitment, retention, and care of qualified trans individuals.
- I came to the Southwest Border in Arizona to evaluate @USNationalGuard operations and capabilities as they support @CBP. I appreciated hearing first-hand from our troops and learning about their work on the ground.
- Honored to meet with Lynn Rosenthal today & announce her role as chair of the DOD Independent Review Commission (IRC) on Sexual Assault. I look forward to the IRC's candid assessment & recommendations for improving our response to combatting sexual assault in the military. (1/3)
- Today I got behind the wheel of an infantry squad vehicle—a new light & agile 9-passenger troop transport made from 90% off-the-shelf components. This is the kind of innovation which will allow us to quickly field the equipment our warfighters need.
