Exciting news for tamandua lovers out there! Winnie, our seven-year-old southern tamandua, is expecting! This will be the first tamandua birth at DZCA in over a decade and we're thrilled to welcome this new addition to our animal family.

- Earlier this year, we welcomed our first Critically Endangered Somali wild ass foal, and we're happy to share that she has lovingly been named Aster by her Animal Care Specialists! Asters are perennial flowers in the daisy family, which is a perfect homage to her mom, Daisy.
- It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Garnet, our beloved 19-year-old red river hog. Thanks to the expert care and dedication from our Animal Care and Health teams, she lived well beyond her species’ typical life expectancy of 15 years. Born right here at DZCA,
- It’s official – our Critically Endangered Eastern bongo calf is named Fig! Born this past August, Fig has been sticking close to mom, learning the ins and outs of her habitat, and stealing hearts along the way. Be sure to visit her and celebrate this little ray of hope with us!
- When it’s sunny and warm outside during the winter, our Critically Endangered Western lowland gorilla boys may have access to their outdoor habitat. Not wanting his toes to get cold while he enjoyed a snow-cone treat keepers left, Kal brought a milk crate to stand on! 🦍🍧❄️

- Our Rocky Mountain goats are off on their new adventure soon! It has been our privilege to care for five-year-old Elbert & Magnolia, but after careful evaluation, our dedicated Animal Care teams have determined that a cooler climate will better support their long-term well-being.
- If you thought our flamingos were cool, our coconut lorikeets are already dressed in their 🌈 best! These birds are native to Southeast Asia, but you can find them at our Lorikeet Adventure! Bird care expert Anton tells us about our same-sex lorikeet pair: Apollo and Trey.
