- Nadine Dorries tells BBC News: “We haven’t had a sporting event like this in the UK since the 2012 Olympics” as she welcomes the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Glasgow was the 2014 host of the same event.
- Quote of the day from an anonymous Tory MP, speaking to the FT about Boris Johnson’s plan to increase National Insurance: “We are asking people on low incomes to pay more tax so that privileged kids can inherit expensive houses.”
- Big blow for the SNP in Glasgow: Mhairi Hunter, a senior councillor and constituency worker for Nicola Sturgeon, has lost her seat in the Southside.
- Nicola Sturgeon is refusing to explain why the boss of the Scottish National Investment Bank - who earned £235k a year courtesy of the taxpayer - suddenly resigned last week.
- Ruth Davidson and Douglas Ross are out leafleting for the Scottish Conservatives in Davidson’s Mains today. One resident promptly opened his door to hand the leaflet back. Asked if he thought the PM should resign, he said: “They should all resign”.
- Replying to @DennynewsNadine Dorries has been mocked after she appeared to forget that Glasgow was the last UK city to host the Commonwealth games.
- The Queensferry Crossing, built at a cost of £1.35 billion, defeated by the Scottish winter once again.Danger of falling ice on the Queensferry Crossing which has just been closed to all traffic - now diverted onto the 60 year old Forth Road Bridge ter.ooo/3AVpOc4
- The First Minister is struggling to explain who exactly will pick up the estimated £33 billion bill to retrofit Scotland's many, many ageing buildings as part of her government's ambitious Net Zero plans.
- It makes me proud that even in desperate times, no one in Glasgow will lower themselves to drinking Bud Light.
- In early July, Scotland had five of the top 10 covid hot spots in the UK. Now, it has none of the top 150.
- ScotRail's managing director has admitted train staff are told not to stop people from drinking on services as there is no legal basis for them to do so. So why does the SNP Government continue to persist with its "temporary" booze ban?
- The Glasgow ABC was a hugely underrated venue. It may have lacked the Barras' history, but it offered a city centre location and great acoustics. I saw everyone from The Vaselines to OFWGKTA there. It's a massive loss to the city's music scene.
