My husband wrote the most wonderful post about Eddie and I wanted to share it on this site: Grief is the price paid for love, and Eddie was loved deeply by a great many people. Our grief is acute and intensified by the wonderful individual Eddie was.

When my kids were little one or both of them did something unsafe that scared me. I told them that if anything ever happened to them, that I would be the saddest mommy in the world. Today is 7 months since Eddie died and now I know that is not true.

Wheelchair users have been trying for ages to raise awareness about their wheelchairs being broken so often when they fly, and the devastating impact this has on them. @AmericanAir baggage handlers decided to give a demonstration of how much they enjoy breaking them 😡

Eddie died so peacefully. He was comfortable and surrounded by love. Children in Gaza are dying cruel painful deaths. Burned alive in places that are supposed to be safe. Starving to death. Dying of infectious diseases because there is no sanitation and no healthcare.

Last week I saw a headless toddler pulled from the burned remains of a tent that was destroyed by bombs my tax dollars paid for. His name was Ahmed Al-Najjar. He was the youngest in his family. His mother and two siblings also died in the attack.

Watching my child die peacefully makes the cruelty of what is happening in Gaza eat through my soul and my bones. Death can be peaceful and beautiful even when it is tragic. Death can be cruel and terrible.

There are layers of trauma that come with the cruelty of losing a child. Our trauma was eased by the love and support we had from our family and friends and everyone involved in Eddie’s care. Our trauma was eased by the months of bonus time we had with him.

When my 12yo son Eddie was on hospice care due to his brain tumor, I rented a whole movie theatre so he and his best friend could watch the new Indiana Jones movie safely. Eddie had a brain hemorrhage a week before and couldn’t make it. His friend and mom watched it alone.

Kenny Johnson had been begging for something to be done about BioLab since before the latest fire that spewed toxic gasses all over the Atlanta metro area. He died shortly after speaking at this meeting. The GBI is investigating his death.

I was at the local grocery store a couple weeks ago and snapped a photo of the raw milk because people outside WA can’t believe our state allows it to be sold in regular grocery stores. Now the exact milk I took a photo of has been recalled for E. coli contamination 😬
