Not an #AprilFoolsDay Joke: after 17 days at @nyulangone, including 6 days on a ventilator, I’m being discharged! Here’s my final hospital bed selfie. #coronavirus #COVID19 #coronaboy #LatsCovid19Journal

Achievement unlocked: no longer on oxygen! We tapered it down gradually after I was extubated last week, and last night while I was asleep they cut it off entirely. #coronavirus #COVID19 #CoronaBoy

As someone who recently spent almost a week hooked up to a ventilator (and probably wouldn't be alive today without one), I can attest to the importance of ventilators and the need for an adequate supply. #coronavirus #CoronavirusUSA #COVID19 #Covid_19
As the coronavirus ravages the U.S. health care system, the scarcity of ventilators has been forcing doctors to make life-or-death decisions about who gets to breathe and who does not. Our investigation helps explain the acute shortage of medical devices. nyti.ms/2w0GihK

After a second night not requiring supplemental oxygen during which my blood oxygen level didn’t dip below 90. Optimistic about getting discharged soon. Thanks again to everyone for your prayers and support.

Folks, this #CoronavirusOutbreak is no joke. I’ll give you occasional updates, tweeting from “Above the Hospital Bed,” about how serious #COVID19 aka #coronavirus can be. Think of this as #LatsCovid19Journal, my thoughts on #LivingWithCovid. [Thread]

Thanks to all the media outlets who have reached out with interview requests - I’m normally delighted to speak with journalists, but right now I’m trying to let my vocal cords heal after 6 days on a ventilator. #Coronavirus #CoronaUpdate #COVID19 #covid_19 #CoronavirusUSA

A quick update on my status (aka reports of my death on a bunch of random “fake news” websites in the Philippines have been greatly exaggerated (#COVID19 #CoronavirusUSA #CoronavirusOutbreak #notdeadyet):

To paraphrase @Beyonce, #COVID19 did not come to play with us hoes; it came to slay. Please keep me - and my very anxious family - in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you. #LatsCovid19Journal #CoronaVirusUpdates #Coronavirusnyc

I was in good shape before I came down with #COVID19 -- and I suspect I might have contracted the #coronavirus at the gym, to which I was going multiple times a week.
FL Gov Ron DeSantis says he won’t close the state’s gyms because “If you are good shape you have a very, very low likelihood of ending up in significant condition as a result of the #coronavirus.”

As I recover from #COVID19, I've been slowly increasing my exercise. Today I went for a two-mile jog/walk, followed by a short swim. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it went; I took many breaks, but I never wound up wheezing.

FYI - I have a confirmed case of #covid19 aka #coronavirus. If you interacted with me in person after 2/23, you can cite that fact and get automatically tested. Otherwise you might have to go to the ridiculous efforts I had to in order

Before and after: my final hospital-bed selfie at @nyulangone, before my discharge yesterday afternoon, and a photo taken after I got to shower, shave, floss, and moisturize, for the first time in weeks. #coronavirus #COVID19 #coronaboy #latscovid19journal

P.S. Look ma, no nasal cannula! Or non-rebreather mask. The mask I’m wearing here provides no oxygen; it’s just to protect staff and patients. #coronavirus #COVID19 #Covid_19 #CoronaBoy
