Former Rowan County standout athlete Justin Graham has died after a valiant bout with leukemia. Graham was a tremendous person from a loving family. Prayers from The Daily Independent sports staff on this sad day of unimaginable loss.

- Boyd County's Savannah Wheeler is Miss Basketball. She's the second 16th Region player (West Carter's Megen Gearhart, 2003) to win the award since its 1976 inception.

- Boyd County graduate Jacob Barnwell has been selected in the MLB Draft. The Colorado Rockies picked the Ohio State catcher in the 22nd round (666th overall).
- Savannah Wheeler has 3,593 career points, including 919 this season. She's sixth on the KHSAA scoring list. Miss Basketball 2019 and her teammates will take the court at Rupp Arena in the Sweet Sixteen next Thursday against Male.
- 16th Region boys finals: Ashland 59, Boyd County 43. Final. It’s the Tomcats’ first region title since 2002.

- Also pointed toward the sky after he missed. I was so confused because I had the sound down. I thought there was a penalty and he was thankful for a second chance. Nope, he missed the kick, and still pointed in that moment. Actions speak louder than boos.Cody Parkey missed the game winning field goal and yet, he was praying at the 50 yard line after the game. There are so many bigger things than a football game.
- Ashland’s Devaunte Robinson signed with Campbellsville today. He and Tomcats coach Jason Mays described the school as the best fit for the 6-foot-3 guard.
- West Carter graduate Peyton Brown has verbally committed to Ohio University to play baseball. The former Comet will officially sign with the Bobcats at a to-be-determined date/time.
