I still stand by this post today. I’ve done more studies this last year on this man and have found some unflattering things but his courage and devotion still stands true. This man had a cushy job and money. He could have skipped the war. He did not. For the Union he still stands
Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. Medal of Honor recipient. I find no greater example today of someone to celebrate than this man. Awarded at Gettysburg for his efforts, his bravery and courage was only equaled by his men’s devotion to duty and their C.O. Here’s to Chamberlain. Salute
Shelby Foote. His three part book on the Civil War changed everything for me. His work inspired many to write and many others to learn about the Civil War. His short story on Shiloh puts you right there in the fight. There’ll never be another like him. Here’s to Shelby Foote.
Gettysburg always does something special at the end of my trips lol. #Gettysburg160 and I couldn’t wait to share this. Just happened on cemetery ridge.

On this date 108 years ago author Shelby Foote was born. He would go on to write a trilogy about the Civil War and become one of the many voices in the Ken Burns documentary, The Civil War. It’s like I can hear his voice through that photo.
Today is a date that will live in infamy but many people have forgotten. I’ve stood in the military sidewalks riddled with bullet holes. I’ve seen the barracks where the airmen were killed in their sleep, I’ve been to the Arizona. I will never forget their memory. Never forget
If I had to choose one actor that shocked me with their portrayal of a real life person it would be Jeff Daniels as JLC. I had him as a goofy actor until I saw this. What actor surprised you in their historic role? Who was better? Jeff Daniels or Sam Elliott? Interesting…..
