- Today marks the start of Wildland Firefighter Week of Remembrance. We remember the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshot firefighters killed in the line of duty 9 years ago in the Yarnell Fire. Flags at all state buildings fly at half-staff in their memory. tinyurl.com/mw6js9dh
- The Fossil Creek permitted area is reopened! We are very excited to welcome the public back to this gorgeous part of the Coconino National Forest. We’ve made major repairs to the facilities and roads after the Backbone Fire, and we’ve been looking forward to our permit season

- Thanks to one of our staff who captured video of this large group of elk along Highway 89A near Flagstaff back in November. Use caution when traveling along the hwy in the north country so as not to hit one of these large fellas crossing the road--especially during evening hours.

- Abandoned campfires are a leading cause of destructive wildfires. They are illegal 24/7/365. If you are camping and have a campfire, you MUST completely extinguish your campfire cold-to-touch before going to sleep for the night or leaving the area for a walk, hike, or to go home.
