In college, the relationship you have with the cafeteria staff might be the most important and one of the most undervalued connections you will ever make in your college career. Trust me on that. Am I wrong? Lol

If I could give 1 peice of advice to a young D3 assistant - Go coach travel b-ball in the spring/summer. Be a head coach for a young team, assist with the older teams. Take advantage to grow in the “fire” of real game action. Your not that busy, your boss should support it.

A 4-year-old asks up to 400 questions a day, but by age 44 we ask fewer than 6. A leader must be mindful to avoid arrogance in their wisdom while remaining humble enough to say "I don't know.” Most of us would rather follow the leader who asks, rather than the one who tells.

College players sometimes have to realize with respect to playing time, it’s not always so much about “what you need to work on” but rather “you just have to show up and consistently out-play your teammates in practice and games.” That’s as simple as it gets for PT.

Honored. Humbled. Appreciative. This isn’t about me it’s about my players. This is the culmination of their season. All the “firsts” for their program. Proud they brought me along for the ride! #WeOverMe

I want to offer my time to any young coach who needs some advice/mentorship or an ear to listen. I've been blessed with amazing mentors/experiences and would be doing a disservice to the game not reaching back. Don't hesitate to reach out. Anytime.

I am convinced Toughness and Competitiveness are the two most important traits in a player when recruiting in any sport.

The idea of being a “college coach” sounds great to a lot of people but the reality of the sacrifice it often takes to “make it” is usually two very different things. Every “college coach” should be required to start their career in these type of roles. How bad do U want it?
At 24 years old, Kelvin Sampson took assistant coach job at Montana Tech on $1,000 stipend. “That’s not $1,000 a month. That’s 10 months of $100 and two months of figuring it out. I wanted to coach.”
