    General Robert E. Lee was a great army commander. His battle successes include the Peninsula Campaign, Second Bull Run (Second Manassas), Fredericksburg, and his masterpiece victory at Chancellorsville.

    On July 3, 1863, at the Battle of Gettysburg the enormous artillery fire was heard 140 miles away in Pittsburgh. The artillery fire on the third day of Gettysburg was described as one of the loudest sounds ever heard in North America.

    Ulysses S. Grant rode horse Cincinnati to Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865, to accept Robert E. Lee's surrender.

    The Iron Brigade lived up to its hard-fighting reputation at the Battle of Gettysburg, but paid a dear price as two-thirds of its Union black-hatted members were lost. Brave and tough men.

    July 1, 1863, John Bufordโ€™s unmounted cavalry successfully held off 3x their number for two hours, giving time for more troops to arrive. Buford allowed the Union troops to occupy the high ground of Gettysburg. This was a very important advantage.

    Well, I've been chewed out and called a "neo - Confederate" because I've had Shelby Foote quotes and called him a "historian." That follower is now gone. I won't put up with personal insults aimed at me or to any of my followers.

    Stonewall Jacksonโ€™s self-developed diet included different kinds of fruit such as oranges, apples, grapes, watermelons, cherries, plums, berries, peaches (which were his favorite), and yes, lemons too.

    Ulysses S. Grantโ€™s horse named Kangaroo was left on the Shiloh battlefield by the Confederates. This horse was described as being ugly and raw-boned. Grant, however, had an eye for horses and he knew Kangaroo was a thoroughbred.

    After the Civil War, Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee often got together and played chess using a blue and gray chessboard with Civil War themed pieces. Oddly, Grant used the Johnny Reb pieces and Lee the Billy Yank pieces. Grant's record was 18-6-5 against Lee.
