We have a basement suite in our home here in Kelowna that we rent out. It's neat, tidy, and affordable (about 30% below avg). Our tenant is moving out May 1st, so I posted an ad. The response has been overwhelming, and kinda troubling...

After putting on a brave face for days, my son spent tonight bawling in my arms. Scared of more fire, worried that his mom’s home is gone, reeling at how suddenly life can change. Be kind to each other, Kelowna. People are hurting.

Almost immediately, protesters entered school property, violating the 20m bubble law passed by the province in November aimed at preventing this exact scenario. Despite the rapid escalation, nobody at the school ever called the police for help.

In one day, 73 inquiries. The usual students and young working people, but this time I've also heard from grandmothers living in motels, single parents facing renoviction, people on disability in apartments being demolished for condos...

Thorough reporting by @alyaramadan has revealed that police left the scene early and school officials did not perceive a threat. Here's the timeline as we understand it...
