Had a conversation with a group of young baseball players who were all born after the year 2000. Explained to them where part of my PASSION about the game of baseball stems from. I was a 15 yr old , straight A, 2 sport HS plyr when Campanis expressed his feelings on National TV

Pitching is an “Art” …velocity is more like Graffiti..while they both present artistic. 1 is worthy of investments, the other has short term shock value. Stood next to a dad Friday who kept breaking his neck to see his sons radar gun readings ( 92-97) but ignored the shelling.

There’s a distinct difference between fans & opportunistic individuals who are solely interested into making a profit. It doesn’t take long for most athletes to recognize the difference.

    For those keeping score at home Ryan Spikes helped his team win the 7A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. During the 10 game playoff season he had a 10 games hitting streak, going 20-35 ( BA .571) 5 HR’s ( 2 GS), 3 3B’s, 42B’s , 6 SB’s & 22 RBI’s. He picked up 4 saves w/o yielding a run.

Football was by far the easiest sport I ever played. Between a youth coach declaring that “ baseball is 85 percent mental” and the fact that I encountered immediate failure, I developed a nearly 40 year love affair with the game.

I’ve watched several guys feel they could replicate what Wash does with the fungo, until they try it. Next thing I know they find some excuse to just roll the ball instead.

I received a text this morning from a veteran scout that I’ve known for over 20 years. His text simply read “ you were right and I was wrong, AGAIN!!” I sarcastically replied “ can you be a little more specific? “ he said your 6’5 LHP at Alabama. To I replied 🤷🏾‍♂️

Look at Joc!! These are the things that the numbers NEVER show.. trust me it made a difference for the tying run. The catcher was semi dekeing . Wash & Ozzie did their job but Joc got down on his knees & made an impact!!

Just my yearly reminder to those who don’t know Lo Cain’s story. He didn’t start playing baseball until his sophomore year. He didn’t own a glove, bat , cleats or pants . He didn’t contribute to the varsity until his senior year. He only had 1 scholarship offer ( Tallahassee CC)
LO CAIN. FOR. THE. WIN. 😱 #OpeningDay

Everyone sees the defensive drills, but only the privilege get a chance to witness what Ron Washington brings off the field. The highlight of my day used to be sliding in Wash’s office and not just picking his brain , but listening to him guide his club, often falling on a sword
