I brought my 3mo old to our annual conference this last week. Iβve grown accustomed to negative responses regarding my status as a graduate school parent (esp having 2 kids), so I tend to expect the worst. Iβm happy to say, however, that everyone was incredibly supportive
Someone recently implied me having kids in grad school must have been unplanned and went on to state βbut it worked out ok!β
Let me assure you my children were very planned.
Graduate students are allowed to have children. Donβt make assumptions.
Occasionally I email my undergraduate mentors and instructors to give them updates (nearly 10 years after I graduated). It's amazing how much of an impact they had on my research and career. Don't underestimate your influence on undergraduate students.
