    Having achieved the accreditation as the first Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Ireland we hope we @CancerInstIRE can support national efforts to contribute to a decrease in cancer incidence and mortality in Ireland, and represent as a standard bearer for cancer care.

    Trinity St James’s Cancer Institute is delighted to announce the first CAR T cell therapy treatment has taken place in #SJH today. This is the first CAR T treatment to take place in Ireland & is led by Dr Larry Bacon, Consultant Haematologist & Liz Higgins CAR T Coordinator.

    Congratulations to Prof Karen Cadoo, St James’s Hospital and Trinity College Dublin on her funding award from the Irish Cancer Society focusing research in inherited genetic cancers to ensure awareness of people’s own genetic risk of cancer and what they can do to lower it.

    The initial wave of CAR T therapies will be directed at haematological cancers, research and development are ongoing to treat other forms of cancers with this type of immune therapy and the indications are that it is expected to expand to include solid tumours. @stjamesdublin
