    Conservatism leads to abuse because conservatism *is* abuse. It is the protection of hierarchy and unearned privilege at the expense of those without power, and the protection of institutions at the expense of the people who inhabit them.

    Someone recently argued that we need a new Billy Graham; I wish Graham’s urgent public Evangelicalism had died with him. America needs a new Fred Rogers. His Christianity I can approve of. It wasn’t a spectacle; Mr. Rogers just genuinely cared for people. We didn’t deserve him.

    #ChristianPrivilege is letting Catholic hospitals refuse to offer comprehensive women’s healthcare, endangering countless lives when they won’t even treat, e.g. an ectopic pregnancy. This is unconscionable and outrageous.

    The intolerance of the just vote crowd bewilders me. It doesn’t matter if you always vote Dem, as I do, to prioritize harm reduction. The minute you criticize anything about the Democratic gerontocracy, they become all vitriol and condescension, berate you beyond all proportion
