Time to end the last government's failed physician associate experiment.
"That's one of the most damning things I've ever read!" LBC listener Peter tells Matthew Wright there's 'no role whatsoever' in the NHS for physician associates.

So I sat through Jeremy Hunt's presentation about how he invented patient safety a few months back. It was slick and wierdly hypnotic. He cheerfully admitted that he'd done the talk about 80 times. 1/n

Government decision to review the failed physician associate experiment is welcome, but time is short. @RCPhysicians needs to adopt the @BMA national scope of practice now to protect patient safety.

If Philip Morris takeover of @VecturaGroup goes ahead, switching people with COPD and asthma from Vectura inhalers to ones that do not provide income to the tobacco industry should be straightforward for most people. Preprint: authorea.com/users/431557/a… 1/n

Time to end the last government's failed physician associate experiment. @RCPhysicians @BTSrespiratory
It's been shown that doctors were unsafely replaced on medical rotas by PAs on 109 occasions, across 11 trusts over 3 months. This appalling patient safety scandal must end. Read our letter to @NHSEngland. And our response to @Channel4News revelations: bma.org.uk/bma-media-cent…
A letter to Dr Navina Evans CBE and Professor Stephen Powis, from BMA council chair Professor Phil Banfield. The letter sets out concerns about new evidence that physician associates (PAs) are being used to replace doctors on medical rotas, as well as the wider concerns of BMA members members on the issue.
