- I hope she’s not applying IM for this residency cycle cause if so, my personal statement doesn’t stand a chance 😶University of Kentucky College of Medicine student, Lee Kiefer, wins gold in fencing! She is a four-time Olympian who’s also balancing her Olympic dreams with med school. She put her studies on hold to compete in #Paris2024 and will soon graduate med school.
- Officially Dr. Barbee! I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was 5, this has literally been a lifelong dream. But this is just the beginning, I have so much more to do! #MedTwitter
- Fundamentally, I went into healthcare to help people. However, the same people I’ve took out loans for, spent decades in school for, consistently advocate for, wouldn’t even think twice about helping me. And that’s really depressing.

What did you do to make the TL hate you? - Today I was hooded! I invited my mother, a biomedical engineer, and grandmother, a former nurse, on stage to accompany me. You are looking at three generations of educated Black women. #MedTwitter
- Turns out nobody cares where you went to med school in residency.
- I scheduled 3 months of away electives. And so far I have spent $7,000 in rent. Just another reason why students from low income backgrounds (like me) are less likely to become doctors.
- Passed STEP 2! Did I get an insanely high score? NO. But a good residency program will pick me and recognize I’m more than an 8 hour exam. #match2025
