Don’t forget about old burn piles! As residential debris burning ends for the season, be sure to check any burn piles that were previously burned. If you have an old pile, make sure it is cold to the touch, thoroughly stirred & completely extinguished. When in doubt, add water.

- As debris burning activity increases, be sure you are doing it right! Clear all flammable vegetation at least 10 ft around your burn pile down to bare mineral soil. That means removing grass, leaves, pine needles, and anything else that can carry fire. Extra prep goes a long way.
- As a reminder, burn permits are required beginning May 1 in the CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit. Always burn safely and confirm it’s a permissive burn day with your local air district. More info: burnpermit.fire.ca.gov
