- In 8 years at my job, I've gone from having a team that threw a baby shower for me when our first baby was due to having a team that no longer shares personal updates about what we did over the weekend.
- Replying to @BristleBerryMost of it is the post-2020 ramp up in remote work: there is something different about being in the same place. But even aside from that biggest factor, there are only so many org changes and layoffs before you just stop expecting any permanence in your network.
- Replying to @BristleBerryNot maligning the people I work with, either. I'm sure they have personal connection somewhere in their non-work life, but none of us have it at work.
- Replying to @BristleBerrySo now we are just BigCorp employees who log on and deal with other faceless BigCorp employees.
- It is peaceful and cool. The ceiling creaks softly as someone walks over the carpet above. You can hear the clock ticking.

- College - removes a young person from whatever has made his life stable - imposes costs that he is unable to really conceptualize - surrounds him primarily with similarly unmoored & naive peers - and tells him that it's adulthood Surely this can't have bad consequences.
