After 2+ years heads down, I'm thrilled to unveil what I've been building with @aryelipman! @biosphereio, we're unleashing biomanufacturing with a breakthrough UV-sterilized reactor that will slash the cost of producing abundant and sustainable chemicals and food at world scale.

First the mob comes for @naval for not being pro-bitcoin enough, next @elonmusk for not being pro-Democrat enough. How is any of this productive? Great opportunity to signal that you're a card carrying member of your tribe though!

    1. In this thread, I pull out the interesting facts I learned from the incredible Energy and Civilization by Vaclav Smil. I’d pitch it as a quantitative Sapiens - one of the best books I've read in ages
I wait for new Vaclav Smil books the way some people wait for the next Star Wars movie. In his latest book, he lays out how our quest for energy has shaped human history: b-gat.es/2BcJODU

It’s said ‘Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations.’ In Japan, it goes ‘Rice paddies to rice paddies in three generations.’ The Scottish say ‘The father buys, the son builds, the grandchild sells, and his son begs.’ In China, ‘Wealth never survives three generations.’

    1. I wanted to write some about the golden age of 20th century physics because I absolutley love it! So here’s the story of when humanity first began to understand the universe and accidentally tore physics in half.

I do like @naval and @KapilGuptaMD’s framing that hard work is never the deciding factor for success; it’s desire. If you want something, you’ll do the work. If you won’t, you don’t really want it.

You're down in LA meme-ing about American Dynamism, I'm at the old US Steel Plant helping to scale production of Mil-Spec Cinnamon Buns for Improved Soldier Lethality. We are not the same

Well after a very long year, it’s now Dr. Brian. For my next act, I’m going to do something easier and bring my research to market and power all the vehicles in the world. Watch out world!

    35. If you factor in the time needed to earn the money to buy a car, fuel it, maintain it, and insure it, your average speed is no higher than 5 km/hr, or about 3 mph. That’s comparable to the speed of simply walking.
