Tonight we are opening the Kansas City Convention center to serve as an overnight warming facility for our unhoused population. Starting with 150 beds tonight with capacity for thousands of people if needed. Open 6pm to 8am every night.

- Kansas City has $2.5 BILLION of development breaking ground over the next 6 months! Here are 10 of my favorites (in no particular order, all numbers subject to change, a🧵):
- Kansas City you are going to love this new airport terminal. Opening in Early 2023!
- Weird way to assign work but consider it doneLET’S HAVE A PARADE WEDNESDAY!!!
- We have begun converting our 90,000 streetlights in #KansasCity to LEDs (old on left, new on right). This will save $5m a year in energy and maintenance costs AND will reduce our CO2 emissions by 29,000 tons annually- the same as removing 6,000 cars from the road every day!
- We are starting to work on a solar array at the airport that would be half the size of Manhattan and could potentially power most of the city. Imagine Kansas City being 100% powered by renewable energy!
- The runways at the Kansas City Airport will reopen and resume normal operations in about 30 minutes.Saturday 2:50pm Update - Due to rapid ice accumulation, the airfield at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is currently closed to flight operations. Check with your airline for specific flight information. Additional status updates to follow. 🧵
- We recently paved Linwood Ave & @spire_energy dug a trench through it within weeks, one of a few examples of blatant disregard of our new street excavation rules. This doesn’t work anymore in #kansascity - we are stopping all new work permits from Spire until we see improvements.
- Turning Newark Ave in Jersey City from a regular street into this incredible pedestrian plaza and outdoor destination was one of my favorite projects- where should we do this in Kansas City?!Crazy to think just a few years ago this was all cars. There’s no going back now. (Jersey City)
