Good things @WeillCornell@nyphospital today!
-More masks, more testing
-Loved seeing how ICU teams have extended lines/pumps outside doors to save PPE & reduce exposures
-Hearing that several patients have been extubated
-Morale in our ICU was incredible!

My dad died 14 years ago today from lung cancer. He would be proud of all the progress we have made against the disease. Thanks to all the researchers, clinicians, patients, and advocates who have made the difference.

I am rooting for all #COVID19 patients at @nyphospital.
But as a doctor & human there are some that really get to you. I am particularly pulling for a young guy I had to put chest tubes in, engaged to be married, on all the support we can give him.
Say a prayer for him today.
Absolutely stunning result from JCOG0802. Overall survival BETTER with segmentectomy than lobectomy for clinical stage I tumors </=2cm. More LR recurrences in segmentectomy, but more non-cancer deaths in lobectomy. Lots to consider. #lcsm#AATS2021
Fondly remembering my dad today.
He died from lung cancer on this date, 15 years ago.
It is a good time to reflect on the words on his gravestone (quote from Albert Pike).

This week alone, I operated on 3 stage IIIB/IV patients on prolonged pembrolizumab, alectinib, and osimertinib. All are thriving, years after diagnosis and doing amazingly well on these incredible medicines. So many options for our lung cancer patients! #lcsm
Remarkably, I have 4 lung cancer patients on my service this weekend each younger than 50. One in 20’s, one in 30’s, 2 in 40’s. Two have stage IV.
When will people understand that anyone can get lung cancer? #lcsm
My #Dad would have been 75 years old today if lung cancer hadn’t taken him too early. He would be thrilled about the incredible progress we have made in diagnosing and treating the disease and would be proud of all the patient advocates out there! #lcsm
I understand people want to go back to work & life.
But I also understand too well that as of Saturday we had >450 #COVID patients in my hospital of whom about 200 are on ventilators fighting for their lives. Young people, old people. White people, people of color.
Stand strong
Wow! Sublobar resection (including wedge) are equivalent to lobectomy for stage I lung cancer <2cm. No difference in DFS or OS and similar rates of recurrence. #WCLC22
Likely new standard of care!
Feel good of day.
I did bedside tracheostomy on a patient w/ long standing #COVID resp failure.
Hours later, she was able to communicate with daughter by facetime for first time in over two weeks.
Thanks to the nurse who was so thoughtful to set it up.
