    This is a picture of Ansar Ali from eight years ago. At the time, he was a waiter at the LUMS branch of Zakir Tikka, having had to quit school after the 9th grade. In two months, he will graduate from SZABIST with a BS in Accounting and Finance. (Thread; 1/25).

    With the verdict today, I’m thinking about the first hearing in the case. Noor’s father, Shaukat sb., was there a couple of days after he had buried his daughter. Zahir was supposed to have arrived over two hours ago, but there was a holdup at the thaana. So shaukat sb. waited.

    I’m going to miss Imran Khan. But not the one who was just voted out of office. I’m going to miss the Imran Khan I thought I voted for. Before he became so much of what he stood against. What an unfortunate end.

    Pakistan is a country whose very birth is testament to the pain of migration. Yet, today, as it forces out close to two million people - in one of the largest forced migrations in recent history - its people cheer it on. What a sordid injustice to our own history.

    They are sending men, women, and children to Afghanistan in containers. Containers. As if they were some form of livestock, or industrial spare parts. What moral right do we have to criticise anyone else if this is how we treat those who came to us for refuge?
