How does a former Cat 5 hurricane with 160mph wind speeds, turned tropical storm after land interaction with winds speeds of “only” 60mph, regain its hurricane status over the warm Gulf of Mexico? It starts like this. #Beryl

So, how is Centerpoint Energy doing in restoring power to its customers following Hurricane Beryl (2024) vs Hurricane Ike (2008)? I researched @chron archives from 2008 to find how many CPE customers had their power restored by end of day post landfall. Here is the comparison:

Why do we choose to photographer the Moon through this perspective? Not because it is easy, but because it is hard… and unique… and pretty dang cool looking. From historic Rice Stadium tonight. Through the aisle entryway. #houwx #txwx Go Owls! @RiceFootball #RFND

Took off from DEN today after severe storms had moved out of the area. Note the remnants of a hail storm east of the airport once we leveled out. Looked like snow on the ground. Cool view! #cowx

Centerpoint Energy has claimed that they have restored more than 800k folks since yesterday’s peak with another 1.4 million still in the dark. This confirms what I am hearing in various sections of the city. In addition, I have personally driven by several power trucks working.

The current flooding event along the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country is just incredible. In Comfort, TX, the water level rose from 3’ at 9amCT to 29’ at 9:45amCT. The water level rose 26’ in just 45 minutes! This is what a wall of water in a flash flood looks like.

Tonight’s @astros vs @Mariners game has lasted 6 hours. For perspective, one could have driven from Houston to San Antonio (197 miles) and back, stopping twice at Buc-ees for 15 minutes each, and the game would still be on. #LevelUp #MathIsFun
