    Yesterday, @DaaroYouth published research on deaths of unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people supported by local authorities. In a detailed investigation we uncovered that 54 unaccompanied y-ppl have died between 2015-24, with the majority dying by suicide- at least 31 y-ppl.

    An unaccompanied 16-year-old Eritrean boy turned up at our youth club this week, just after opening, with some others. He was a new face so I asked him how long he'd been in the UK and he said: "today". I said: "what do you mean 'today'?" He said: "I arrived, just today". 🧵

    This youth worker asked Jo Swinson some pretty simple questions about cuts to youth services when she came to visit his centre. Not only could she not answer them - but the Lib Dems press person then tried to remove him from the room.

    Landlord just wrote to us saying they are increasing our rent by 20% at the end of the tenancy. As such I'm going to likely be forced to move for the second time this year. Would the Labour government kindly do something so that private renters aren't living in hell?

    One thing the government could do immediately - provide amnesty to undocumented Afghans in the UK. How many Afghan asylum-seekers were refused on the grounds they could return to Kabul and be safe there? That has been proven false.

    Thinking about the terrified men, young and old, who are sitting in an immigration removal centre awaiting removal to Rwanda, a country they've never been to. May the people who dreamt up this plan never again know rest or joy.

    A young girl detained in Manston threw this letter over the fence to a PA news agency photographer today. “We are in a difficult life now … we fill like we’re in prison...some of us very sick … ther’s some women’s that are pregnant…We really need your help. Please help us."

    Was in Manston today, at the detention camp. We saw so many young children - from Syria, Afghanistan and Iran. The narrative much of the media is presenting is false. The chants of "freedom" and "we need your help" will stay with me for a long time.
