@ruthbenghiat and I did this piece together for the LA Times on Trump saying we won't have to vote anymore after this election, because he'll "fix" it. Listen carefully when authoritarians tell you who they are.
This is an absolute emergency. Call your congresspeople and representatives and urge them to pass legislation along these lines.
Congress Needs to Defend Vote Counting, Not Just Vote Casting
Sarah Huckabee Sanders signs a bill favoring child labor; Tim Walz signs a bill giving kids school breakfast and lunch. Fair to say the kids do not look equally excited. Now vote for whichever one you prefer.
I just saw that Benjamin Ferencz died yesterday, aged 103. A towering figure -- Nuremberg prosecutor and tireless advocate for "law not war" as he put it. Here he is opening the "Einsatzgruppen" trial (scroll down a bit).
Breathtaking moral obtuseness from @washingtonpost pub. William Lewis:
"We see [not endorsing] as consistent with the values The Post has always stood for and what we hope for in a leader: character and courage...veneration for the rule of law, and respect for human freedom."
With his talk about murderers being genetic, Trump wandered right into the book I'm writing at the moment. Me in the LA Times today.
Opinion: Trump says criminal activity is genetic. Nazis showed where such talk can lead
I got this response to my tweet about Gov. Walz/school lunch bill. MAGA can't help but be vicious. It's what they love in their orange boss and his little bearded apprentice. It's what they do themselves.
The incredible response to Harris/Walz shows Americans are sick of it.
Just so we're all clear on this, most German Jews in the '30s and '40s considered themselves German. Hitler didn't. If you say they weren't German, you're operating with Nazi concepts, and misrepresenting and disrespecting how people thought of themselves.
For Americans who may not know these folks: This is German Pres. Frank-Walter Steinmeier speaking about the terrible floods. The guy on the left behind is Gov. of the state afflicted (NRW) and CDU CHANCELLOR CANDIDATE Armin Laschet, who finds this all very funny. #Laschetlacht
Federal president Frank-Walter Steinmeier makes his statement regarding terrible flood in Germany, with almost 100 persons killed and 1,500 missing. The federal chancellor candidate @ArminLaschet from Christian Democratic Union @CDU (in the back) finds this very, very funny.
We have a world with Trumps and Carlsons and then we have Navalnys. A dictator can murder Navalny but can't extinguish his courage or his message. It remains for us to hear the message and OPPOSE dictators and the traitors here who support them. #Nawalny#GOPTraitorsToDemocracy
A wonderful student from my just-finished European history survey wrote to tell me that she had been to a protest because she felt "Your class inspired me to make use of my power as a citizen." And she sent me a picture of her sign. As my wife said, "your work is done."
