- I don't like the conversation on emergency funds because if your job just covers your living expenses, how on earth are you supposed to build an emergency fund?If people are taking an average of 18 months to find a new job, your emergency fund rules of 3-6 months living expenses no longer apply. It should be closer to 6-12 months.
