For pinning purposes: Elon Musk has turned Twitter into a cesspit. I'm not staying on here, and neither should you be. You can find me elsewhere.
Image with the words "Goodbye, Twitter." under the Ballot Box Scotland logo. Alongside this is text reading: "After 7 years, Ballot Box Scotland will no longer be posting on Twitter (or "X", as it was rebranded.) I regret that it has come to this, but this platform is not only no longer fun to use, but an actively dangerous hotbed of conspiracies and hatred. I want no party in that. This is by no means the end of Ballot Box Scotland as a project. This website will continue as normal, and all the content previously posted on Twitter will instead be available on Bluesky."

It includes links to my Bluesky: bsky.app/profile/ballotbox.scot

Douglas Ross replacing David Duguid as Aberdeenshire North and Moray East candidate. I try to be careful with my words on this project, but to deselect at last minute an unwell MP; stand again yourself after having said you wouldn't; in a safer seat than your current? Sordid.

I'm ordering the nastiest takeaway available to humankind now, and I hope all my volunteers are doing the same after the shift we've all put in today. I'll be back later this evening with some more quick-analysis of the overall picture.

SNP GAIN Edinburgh Central (Lothian) from Conservative Angus Robertson returns to parliamentary politics, and takes the seat former Conservative leader Ruth Davidson famously won in 2016 - she is heading to the Lords this election. #SP21 #BBS21 ballotbox.scot

Hi Twitter, can I remind you that despite the name "Ballot Box Scotland", I'm actually a human being? I also happen to be unemployed and quite depressed. This project is fun for me 99% of the time, but if you're going to be rude and unpleasant, how bout you... don't tweet me?

I'm going to allow myself this one brief bit of (what I genuinely do not intend to be mean-spirited_ satisfaction that BBS has again proven the worth of a Scotland-focussed project. At least two sources, with more academic basis than I have, put out obviously wrong projections.

Very grateful for immense support over the past 24 hours, and it is indeed very much from across the political aisle - very kind messages from e.g. @IanMurrayMP were lovely to see too. Couldn't possibly like or respond to it all, but absolutely adds to the joy of running BBS ๐Ÿ˜ญ
What @BallotBoxScot does - as a volunteer operation - is remarkableโ€ฆand Iโ€™m sure thatโ€™s a view shared cross party. Its ward by ward analysis pre-election, and live coverage of results yesterday, more than matched anything provided by professional media. Very well done ๐Ÿ‘

SNP GAIN Ayr (South) from Conservative Siobhan Brown defeats Conservative MSP John Scott, who is too far down the list to be re-elected now. A narrow margin of just 170 votes. #SP21 #BBS21 ballotbox.scot

SNP GAIN East Lothian from Labour Paul McLennan elected as MSP, seeing off Labour's Martin Whitfield who sought to replace Iain Gray. #SP21 #BBS21 ballotbox.scot

Labour HOLD Dumbarton (West) Jackie Baillie re-elected in what was Scotland's most marginal seat. #SP21 #BBS21 ballotbox.scot

I do wish Andrew Wilson on the BBC would stop repeating "there's no PR system in the world with a majority" - I can't speak to this exact moment in time, but for example, in 2011 when the SNP won their majority, both Spain and Croatia also elected majority governments via PR.

A naturally muted anniversary, given the circumstances, but today marks 25 years since Scotland voted overwhelmingly in favour of establishing the Scottish Parliament. The devolution referendum passed almost 3 to 1 (74.3% vs 25.7%), with all 32 council areas voting in favour.
