Mass deportations are something that much of the world just doesn’t get. The soviets used mass deportations in an attempt to eradicate entire nations who were dispersed across remote parts of the empire to provide hard labour. Here in the Baltic countries, their mass deportations were overwhelmingly targeted at women and children who the occupiers snatched during the night. They thought that would break us as independent nations. They even snatched babies, pregnant women, and seperated children from their parents. Many of the kidnapped died on the way or after arrival due to the terrible conditions. The term ‘mass deportations’ is probably too soft for the world to understand it properly. We’re talking about genocide. But the key reason the world doesn’t understand it or get taught about it - as with russian imperialism in general - is because the criminals largely escaped justice. There should have been Nuremberg-style trials. Instead, russian imperialism rebranded itself again and came full circle. Our generation can’t make that mistake again. We gotta break the cycle. Putin is now officially wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of mass child abductions against Ukraine. (And I do hope the media start using that title when referring to him now.) There can be no return to normality in dealing with these criminals. The wheels of justice turn slowly, but will grind exceedingly fine. A message from Lithuania. 👇
