The most powerful buffer in times of stress and distress is our social connectedness; so let's all remember to stay physically distant but emotionally close. Reach out and connect; even a short text or smiling face on Zoom can help. Regulate, Relate, Reason.

With ACE awareness increasing - it will be important to push past the simple question "What happened to you" & ask "When did it happen" "Who was there to help" "Who has been there for you since" & "Is it still happening" Think beyond ACEs - to development & connectedness

Our educators make all the difference in the lives of so many children. Thousands of therapeutic, healing moments provided for children each week by a regulated, respected faculty. Let’s make sure to take care of our teachers so they can be fully present for our children.

Just want to express my gratitude to @Oprah for the focus on developmental trauma & to colleagues, partners @NeuroSequential @ChildTraumaAcad & all of the people working so hard to do research, service, and training in this field. Time to move beyond ACEs. Connectedness is key

What a powerful image to illustrate the power of “connectedness” following trauma. @NeuroSequential #whathappenedtoyou

Find some way to spend time ... real time with children. And then play with them a lot and listen. And listen. And listen. And listen.
@BDPerry What advice do you have for soon-to-be college graduate (B.S. Child Development) who is interested in working with kids who have been through trauma?

I think one of the most unfortunate aspects of the "ACE movement" is this kind of over-simplified, monetized and, typically, inaccurate view of complex human experiences.

We are working on this -- have discussion underway with schools of SW & Education to move towards this. @NeuroSequential

Sometimes we just need to regulate a bit.......that's all.

@Oprah & I have been having conversations for 30 yrs; this book is the distillation of key concepts from those talks. Our intention is to highlight the power of experiences - good & bad - in shaping who we are. Check out the book & virtual tour. #WhatHappenedToYou
