Hard to believe itโ€™s only been one week sinceโ€ฆ *that* DUP executive meeting, the DUP decision, new legislation in London, a Saturday assembly sitting, all culminating today in visits to Stormont from a PM and a Taoiseach. Oh, & a 1st executive meeting. Hereโ€™s how today unfolded
Northern Ireland's Executive has met for the first time in two years. The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, and Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, were at Stormont today to mark the occasion and meet with the new First Minister, Michelle O'Neill, and Deputy First Minister, Emma Little-Pengelly

Little bit of news: Iโ€™ve taken up the role of Political Correspondent for BBC News NI, having spent the past 3 years as its Political Reporter. Brexit, elections, Stormont returning and a pandemic have kept me busy. I imagine the next three years will be just as eventful!

This is what Julian Smith did the night Stormont was restored - he hosted victims of historical abuse for a reception after helping them to get laws passed to provide long awaited compensation - he was the first SoS they said had listened to them properly
Hereโ€™s how the NI Secretary Julian Smith spent part of his Friday evening- holding a reception for survivors of historical institutional abuse.. he managed to resolve their pleas for compensation within months of taking office & has kept in close contact with them since

.@robinswannmoh not mincing his words: "I wish those people ignoring stay at home message would just stay at home out of the road because what they do is akin to walking into any of our hospitals or ICU units & slapping a nurse in the face - that's how I feel about these people"

DUP MP Ian Paisley points across the chamber at Conservative benches and says: "What did we do to members on those benches over there to be screwed over by this protocol, ask your hearts, what did we do? It's an insult to our intelligence to say it's a teething problem"
