I had an offer to work as a systems engineer in the DMV. The recruiter told me the salary range was between 160k-230k. I told the recruiter upfront since you contacted me about this opportunity I would like the base salary to be 200k even.
Sometimes the money looks good but doing the research and looking at what you make and seeing if those numbers line up are extremely important especially since Uncle Sam is going to get his cut regardless and the way rent is setup I want the money without the contractual
Anytime you accept an offer from a company there will be a catch and thatβs just how life goes. However, that catch has to be something you are comfortable with accepting. I knew that sign on bonus would have locked me in with that company for 2 years. Meaning I couldnβt leave on
They said it wouldnβt be a problem to make that happen pending the 2 round interview. So the first interview I speak with the PM for the company. They tell me about the job and the expectations and ask me about my background. The typical formalities. I talked to them for about an
Furthermore when I looked at the taxes involved and the fact I would have been leaving a state that didnβt have state taxes I was taking a loss not to mention their was no moving package included with this deal and the bonus would have been split into four DMV taxed payouts.
The recruiter asked me about my salaries expectations again. I told them since I was sought out for this role I want 200k even. They told me the PM wanted to counter for 160K with a sign on bonus of 30k+. So I told them absolutely not and hereβs why.

So the recruiter calls me the next day and they ask me how did I think did on the interviews. I told them I think I did well but itβs honestly up to the team and if they felt I was a good fit for the company. They told me that they wanted to extend an offer.
