- Be careful how you “praise” teachers for staying at school late each night and working on the weekends consistently. We literally enable them to live unbalanced lives and we send the message to those who don’t that this is the ultimate expectation. #SchoolCultureMatters
- The STAAR test is seeming more and more irrelevant by the day.
- Watching #WhenTheySeeUsNow interview with @Oprah and I am reliving these emotions all over again😪 “The system broke things in us that can never be fixed.” We shall never forget these names: Antron|Ray|Korey|Yusef|Kevin Thank you @ava for telling their story.
- Contrary to popular opinion, jumping straight into the content will tank you! If you fail to define the culture for students, they will define it for you. Teaching procedures & routines is still considered teaching! Teach them how to respectfully interact. #SchoolCultureMatters
- Allow me to reintroduce myself🎵 Today I successfully defended my dissertation on what would have been my mom’s 64th birthday. She was a beloved educator that left this earth 19 years ago. This study has been life-changing. #DearMama #imFinishED #PreservePrincipals #UTCSP29🤘🏾
- Twitter, meet my dad! He was a sharecropper; picked cotton his entire childhood and attended school during the off seasons. He PUSHED all three of his girls to dream the dreams he could never dream. He asked to borrow my robe. This degree is for him🤘🏾#FinishEdD
- Someone recently asked me why I still promote my former school. My response: Because it was never about me. If my heart was truly with that school and community, then I want everyone to succeed no matter how far removed I am. I passed the torch not the pom-poms😂 Cheer them on!
- EduTwitter is highly informed but highly critical of everything. One day, guided reading is good & the next day it’s problematic & not developmentally appropriate. Anchor charts are effective & then they’re not bc they’re too colorful😂 Approach cautiously. Unplug when necessary.
- EduTwitter: If you’re too positive, it could be signs of toxic positivity. If you are not positive at all then you’re the problem. If you show your authentic self, you’re doing too much. But, if you guard yourself, then you’re not relatable enough. Whew. Y’all be safe out there.
- After 15 years in education, I am moving to my second home. I am so grateful for the memories and lifelong learning experiences. I am also excited to start this new journey as Director of Leadership Development and Support in Austin ISD. Thank you, Houston♥️ #TrulyGrateful
- Teachers do not want to talk about STAAR & TELPAS data right now. They want to talk about their anxiety & the pandemic. They want to discuss the tropical storms that are brewing in the Gulf. They want to know if you know that their mental health is failing. #SchoolCultureMatters
- One of the hardest things to do is to refrain from telling your side of the story no matter how painful the narrative that is being portrayed may be. Know that things always come full circle and in due time the truth will be revealed. Keep moving forward. Your purpose awaits.
