I dug in to Musk's dismantling of USAid because it shows his playbook for capturing the whole federal government. What surprised me was his direct involvement in the operation. For example, he demanded suspension of 57 career officers by phone last Monday.

Trump planning to issue executive order as early as tonight to shut down USAID and merge it with State, says source. Rubio will be acting head. Logos already being taken down at the Ronald Reagan Building.

Russian occupation administration in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region calling for a full evacuation. “Our army is doing all it can” but admits it can’t stop Ukraine. Stunning defeat in towns and villages where Russia told local collaborators it was there to stay.

Глава российской оккупационной администрации Харьковской области Виталий Ганчев порекомендовал всем жителям региона эвакуироваться в Россию «с целью сохранения жизней»

Useful @guardian map showing how much of the territory Putin is “annexing” isn’t even under Russian control. The total territory is about 15% of Ukraine and includes major cities. Under Russia’s amended constitution, no Kremlin leader can cede territories once they are annexed.

Mobilized Russian soldiers from Omsk region asking the uncomfortable question of when they're going to be paid. Local officials say that they don't have the actual money to pay them all right now.
Средств на выплаты мобилизованным не хватает, признались в Омской области. Власти региона договорились с военкоматами, чтобы дать время мобилизованным на переоформление бизнеса (без уточнения, на кого), сообщает ТАСС.

For those of us who have lived and covered this war from 2014 and before it is hard to imagine a more counterfactual, distorted and frankly offensive interpretation of the last decade

“How the fuck did this happen?” say Russian border guards now in sight of Ukrainian troops. My second dispatch from Belgorod, where retreating soldiers roam streets. Fear and apathy too. “Until someone brings a coffin to your home, nobody cares.”

The Crimean Bridge has been hit, either by a missile or a sabotage attack. Strikes at the heart of Vladimir Putin’s prestige. He went to war to take Kyiv only to find that he can’t even protect Crimea. He’ll be looking for some way to respond.

Arrests on Arbat. Hundreds of Russians protesting the mobilization order chanting “No to War”

“It’s not a partial mobilisation, it’s a 100% mobilisation.” Midnight summons, vodka-fueled farewells, and showdowns at the draft centers. Russia says it’s recruiting 300,000 but the real number could be 3x higher.

Just saw Russian air ticket site @aviasales has an option for destination: "Wherever I can go". It's definitely getting a workout today as many fearing again that Putin is about to announce mobilization and close the borders.

Russians mobilized to fight in Ukraine are coming back in coffins. Relatives are asking why they were sent to the front so fast. Often, they’re told nothing at all. “All we have is a date and a place.” A possible inflection point at home in Russia’s war.

A Russian man lit himself on fire at a bus station in Ryazan while yelling he didn’t want to take part in the Ukraine war. Same morning as a military commandant overseeing the draft in a Siberian town was shot. Tensions high in Russia over mobilization.
