    I have resigned from Cabinet and surrendered the Conservative Whip. I cannot stand by as good, loyal moderate Conservatives are expelled. I have spoken to the PM and my Association Chairman to explain. I remain committed to the One Nation values that drew me into politics.

    Badly judged & rude of some students last night at Oxford to decide to “no platform” me 30 mins before an event I had been invited to for #IWD2020 to encourage young women into politics. They should stop hiding and start engaging. #FreeSpeech

    It’s shocking that this needs saying, but it’s not okay to ‘joke’, threaten or talk about raping a woman. @jessphillips is admired even by those of us who don’t share her politics, because she’s a determined MP and a strong advocate for women’s rights. We must defeat this hate.

    During Gov briefings am I the only one thinking ‘where are all the women?’ Why are there no senior women in the “war cabinet” or used to convey those critical messages? Equality means better decisions. Don’t pack the women away during a crisis.

    I received a characteristically ebullient, light hearted , positive response from Boris over weekend when I wished him a speedy recovery. I now want to multiply those good wishes 100 fold and send him hopes and support for a healthy recovery.

    Funny thing really, as just last week the PM asked me to stand in the General Election. Afraid the Chief Whip has been briefed by the wrong “No 10 Sources” this morning but nonetheless I respect the decision he had been asked to make.
