Everywhere in Warsaw are signs of support for Ukrainians & Ukrainians. Flags. Food & clothing collection points. Poles are taking in Ukrainians. All just happening. As a Polish friend put it, “Poland is the world’s largest humanitarian NGO.”

Poland is a big customer for US defense articles and tech products. And pro-American. So the Trump Administration (and Elon Musk) will alienate one of our best friends and a big customer. Where’s the US interest here? @TomRoseIndy
Starlinks for Ukraine are paid for by the Polish Digitization Ministry at the cost of about $50 million per year. The ethics of threatening the victim of aggression apart, if SpaceX proves to be an unreliable provider we will be forced to look for other suppliers.

Polish friends tell me they have taken in Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Warsaw. "Of course we did," they said, "It used to be us."

Denmark was a good enough ally to send troops to Afghanistan and Iraq to help the US.
Truly remarkable with Vice President JD Vance 🇺🇸 saying that 🇩🇰 “is not a good ally” and indicates 🇺🇸 will do whatever with 🇬🇱 in spite of “the screaming of the Europeans”.

Sigh... Ukraine was neutral in 2013. Putin invaded anyway.
🚨The Ukrainian conflict could end right now in the shortest possible time if Kiev chose a position of neutrality instead of joining NATO, said Jeffrey Sachs. However, instead, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other “warmongers,” including French President Emmanuel Macron

Good response from the Polish FM @sikorskiradek to @SecRubio. Musk appeared to threaten Ukraine’s access to Starlink. Rubio denied any such threat. So the Poles, who help pay for it, pocket the denial.
    Replying to @marcorubio
Thank you, Marco, for confirming that the brave soldiers of Ukraine can count on the vital internet service provided jointly by 🇺🇸 and🇵🇱. Together, Europe and the United States can help 🇺🇦 to achieve a just peace.

A new government. And a new start for Poland.

Given US, French, and many others' decision to send serious weapons to help Ukraine, this statement of reticence by Chancellor Scholz seems...out of place.

In his “annexation” speech, Putin groused about the rules-based order, asking plaintively, “Who agreed to these rules?” Well: you did. 1/3

Going after the Russian Central Bank is huge. Bigger even than SWIFT. Administration didn't want to go there but is moving fast in response to the gravity of Putin's war on Ukraine. Getting G7 to move on this package shows depth of West's anger.
Big new sanctions from the G7: removing selected Russian banks from SWIFT, restrictions on Russian Central Bank, preventing Russian oligarchs from buying European citizenship (about time), & hunting for assets of Putin's cronies. A hammer. @ACGeoEcon whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/…

Let Putin's fans and apologists in the US use the death of Navalny as a chance to reconsider their position. They look like the American Hitler apologists and Nazi sympathizers in the late 1930's. 1/2

“Rank democracy.” This from a US Senator. Authoritarianism on the right is now explicit.
Democracy isn’t the objective; liberty, peace, and prospefity are. We want the human condition to flourish. Rank democracy can thwart that.

At the end of the 2008 Russo-Georgian War, one of my colleagues said that we must turn Putin's successful tactical into his strategic defeat. We did not do so then. We must do so now.

Polish advice about Russia ought to be taken seriously, given the track record. Germans and others who used to dismiss warnings from Poland and the Baltic countries about Russia have discovered their error.
