    As the new NHS Chief Executive, I’d like to thank staff for everything you have done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. I’ve always been incredibly proud to work for the NHS since I joined as a graduate trainee and I have never been prouder of what we’ve achieved. 1/10

    On behalf of the whole NHS, I want to offer my condolences to the loved ones of Deborah James — her amazing attitude was humbling and a lesson to us all. Her fundraising has helped countless cancer patients and her determination to raise awareness will have saved many lives.

    I’m proud that people from nearly 200 countries work in our NHS. I completely condemn this racist violence and stand with our staff and the communities they live and work in. Thank you to our emergency services who are working hard to keep everyone safe.

    To all my NHS colleagues working tonight and over the weekend: thank you. I know how much pressure all services are under, but particularly ambulance and urgent and emergency care - ahead of what is often the busiest night of the year.

    The NHS has today begun the world's largest trial of a new blood test that detects more than 50 types of cancer before symptoms appear. By finding cancer early, we have the best chance of treating it and giving people the best possible chance of survival.

    The NHS team played a crucial role in bringing children from Ukraine to England for cancer treatment yesterday. Thank you to our remarkable NHS colleagues who came together to make this happen quickly and with such compassion. The NHS will continue to help in any way we can.

    It was an extraordinary honour to represent the NHS at the Coronation service. Many colleagues were also part of this historic occasion, reflecting the respect and admiration the Royal Family has for the NHS and the work our dedicated staff do.
