Since the 1950s, India has warmed by about 0.6°C, about half the rate observed in other parts of the Northern Hemisphere. This so-called ‘cooling’ of India comes at a staggering human cost though. In 2021, aerosol pollution contributed to 2–3 million deaths in South Asia.
